For nearly a decade, Wamam Development Foundation Africa (WDFA) has provided the essentials to countless orphaned and impoverished children across Uganda. Through our dedicated Orphan Care Education Program education programs in Uganda , we are transforming lives by providing not just the basic necessities, but also the tools for a brighter future. Our holistic approach ensures that children receive the care, support, and education they need to break the cycle of poverty and build a better tomorrow. At Wama Orphanage Home & school in Bugiri, Uganda , we are witnessing incredible stories of resilience and hope as these young lives blossom with new opportunities.
Our Orphan Care Programs offer loving and supportive home environments where children receive not just essential care, including food, shelter, and healthcare, but also support, love, and guidance. But we believe that true transformation extends beyond basic needs. Education is the key that unlocks a world of possibilities.
Our Education Programs in Africa complement our Wama Junior Academy by providing access to quality education for hundreds of children who otherwise would be missing out on a brighter future. We understand that education is more than just attending school; it’s about unlocking potential, fostering critical thinking, and building the skills needed to thrive.
Access to education in Africa is a significant challenge. Poverty, lack of infrastructure, and cultural barriers often prevent children from unlocking their full potential. Girls, in particular, face additional hurdles due to gender disparities.
Yet, amidst these challenges, stories of resilience and triumph emerge like that of Sandra. Born in a Ugandan prison, Sandra was brought to the Wama Orphanage Home shortly after birth and raised by founder Steven Hynes . From infancy to age 19, Bukaaye was her home.
At 13, she dreamed of becoming an accountant, but later pursued a degree in Environmental Health Sciences at Kampala International University. Graduating this year, Sandra is grateful to WDFA supporters for helping her achieve her dreams: “Being educated is one of the best things I’ve ever wanted. Thank you for all your support and may the good Lord bless you.”
Through our programs, we witness first hand the transformative power of education. Children who once faced a bleak future are now blossoming into confident and capable individuals.
Mukisa and Sarah, twins born in May 2015 to a mentally ill mother living on the streets of Iganga, were taken to a hospital by a good samaritan. After their birth, their mother was referred to mental health services, and the infants were placed in the newborn unit. Local officials brought them to WDFA Head Offices when they were just a month old. Now healthy and happy 6-year-olds, they attend Wama Junior Academy and are thriving academically. Despite efforts to track down their relatives, Mukisa and Sarah remain safe, secure, and cared for at Wama Children’s Home, supported by Wama Development Foundation Africa .
In 2023, we made significant strides in our mission to provide care and education to children in need:
